Beverage distributors merge

MANCHESTER -- Amoskeag Beverages Inc. of Hooksett and Capitol Distributors Inc. of Bow have merged into a new entity, Amoskeag Beverages LLC, which will be one of the largest beer distributors in the state.

"It's just a great opportunity to put both companies together," said Thomas A. Bullock, president of the new company, which will have sales of 6 million cases a year and 214 employees.

"We can go to the market much more effectively and efficiently and on the other side, we both eliminated our chief competitors by joining together," he said.

Besides Bullock, principals in the group are Ed Murphy, Kevin Emmons, Jeff Honickman, Dominic Origilio and Simon Bergson.

Brands they will distribute include beer and flavored maltbeverages from Miller/Coors, Boston Beer (Sam Adams), Crown Importing (Corona), Diageo (Guinness), Mike's Hard Lemonade, LaBatt's, Harpoon, Magic Hat, Smuttynose, Pabst, Bartles & James and Seagram. They'll also have energy drink Red Bull.

DeMoulas and Market Basket supermarkets are its largest customer and sales to chains make up half the company's business, Bullock said.

Amoskeag Beverages will be based at the former Capitol Distributors facility at 510 Hall St. in Bow. It has 235,000 square feet. The former Amoskeag warehouse at 4 Brookside West in Hooksett will be leased or sold.
